It is never too early to paint some Christmas projects! I really like painting Christmas designs, because I get inspired in so many ways and I can have fun and use many different “sparkling” products!!! So, here I am with another FREE design and a Christmas decorative painting decoration for beginners!
As some of you probably know already, I really like to buy some IKEA products and bring them to life again with a handmade decoration. I also think that they could be a nice idea for a handmade creation, for a present or for those lovely craft markets that are so popular during Christmas time and that bring more magic in the air!
As I did for the “Patchwork Pumpkin” design, that as you can imagine is a fall design, I wanted to use an IKEA wood board, but of course you can choose another surface or material: metal, tin, fabric… that’s up to you!
Moreover, there are few colors needed, so it’s perfect for Decorative Painting beginners or if you want to learn the basic technique.
I used all acrylic paints from DecoArt Americana, I think they are the best in terms of coverage and long-lasting quality. I also had two new products to try: one color of the DecoArt Chalky Finish line and one of the DecoArt Vintage Effects line, and I actually love them both!!!
At the beginning, I used the Chalky Finish paint only for my Home Décor projects (as I did for the furniture makeover project that you can find in the Blog).
I actually found out that this product line is also good for Decorative Painting! I used it as the background of the design, and I have to tell you… since the paint is really smooth once dry, it is really easy to float the other colors for shading or highlighting.
Ok, maybe at this point you could think: “well… but I have never painted… I don’t know anything about Decorative Painting and acrylics…”
No problem!!!
On my YouTube channel there are some short tutorials where I will show you exactly what you need to do, for example how to make floats or how to use stencils!
Ok, I have to tell you though… painting, like many other creative hobbies, needs practice… so don’t get frustrated or discouraged… just keep on practicing and try again!
